The road safety organizations have come out with statistics on road safety. The Fuel Card news analysis team realizes that the figures for Christmas fortnight clearly demonstrate a reckless driving habit on the part of drunken drivers. Most penalties and tickets are given to the reckless driving that happens due to these drunken drivers.
As per a road safety organization, 1500 drivers were caught on charges of drunken driving and another 3,000 received tickets on account of over-speeding. 965 were booked on charges of using a mobile while driving. All this makes us wonder if road safety is being accorded the right priority, especially by the youth.
In an interesting study on driver behaviour, it was found that most errant drivers are repeat offenders they have been found to be habitual rule breakers and have scant regard for their own safety or the safety of others on the road. It remains to be seen if these errant folks can be penalized so as to create a deterrent to reckless and irresponsible driving.
