The freshwater pearl is one of the most commonly used items for woman's jewelry. The pearl has been a sign of elegance and sophistication for many years. Pearls can be used to make a variety of different piece of jewelry including earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Over the years pearl jewelry has gone from single strands and stud earrings to elaborate pieces. Pearls are the perfect accessory that will take a woman from office to dinner to a night out on the town.
Fresh water pearls come from freshwater mussels. They are found almost exclusively in China but can occasionally be found in the United States or Japan. Freshwater pearls can be found in a variety of colors including black, white, grey and pink. Once removed from the mussel the pearls are dried and bleached which prepares them for use in jewelry and other products. Pearls can range in price depending on the rarity of the particular type and color of pearl.
